Careers for Homeschoolers: Nursing
Out of the blue I got a job offer. I’m not even looking for a job! Someone called asking me to come work as a nurse. I have not been working as a nurse for 15 years, but I still have my RN license, and it haunts me. $ 1400 per week – - I got $ 1100 after tax “money free and clear.” She told me that I would be a $ 1,000 bonus to start work with their company.
Nurses are in high demand. With the aging population, fewer nurses and the need great. There is a wide range of professions in nursing, not only in the hospital. The hours are long, but they do not need to be. The job can be stressful physically, but not always. It is an extremely flexible career that is easy for parents with small children. It is a great area for missionaries, and have a great “foot in the door” as an important skill that all countries.
Nurses use mathematics and science. I use algebra every day when I worked as a nurse, calculating medications and infusions. A little math error can cause a serious drug error, so the pressure was intense. In high school I graduated from pre-calculus and calculus was needed at school. As with any medical or scientific field, it is useful to stick to standard science: biology, chemistry and physics.
Teens who are interested in the medical profession are able to volunteer opportunities in an academic career search. I worked as a volunteer in a hospital at the age of 14 years. Candy Stripes often as hospital volunteers are a valuable feature.
While some community service, young people also learn skills essential to medicine. They learn about the daily flavors and colors, so they are not shocked by the first day of nursing education. You will learn the basic skills such as making beds. They learn about caring for sick people is crucial for determining a career in nursing. Finally, they can learn about the wide range of careers in medicine, so they know what particular area of medicine is good for them.
I loved being a nurse. When my son was born, I was at work one weekend a month. It makes my husband regularly experience as the primary caregiver for our baby, it’s great for our marriage. When my son started Little League, I could not bear to miss a baseball game, so I resigned as a nurse. I loved my job as a homeschooler as much as I liked, was a nurse. When my kids exam, it was hard to decide what to do!
Finally, I loved my job as a tutor at home, and my skills, homeschooling high school was “fresh”. Still, I loved as a nurse, and I think it’s a great career too young to worry about other desires.
